This course examines the major political, social, and economic events in African American history. The topics to be treated in this course will include: the African background; slavery; emancipation; the Civil War and Reconstruction; blacks in the twentieth century; the civil rights movement; and social, cultural, and economic aspects of black history. The primary General Education learning outcome for this class is Global Socio-Cultural Responsibility: Demonstrate an understanding of pluralism/diversity in the world community and an awareness of civic and social participation and ethical and informed decision making. |
