This is a one semester chemical science course presented from the perspective of the general society. This course introduces the basic principles and concepts of chemistry which include chemical nomenclature, reactions and stoichiometry, and how chemistry is applied in the contemporary world. Students will achieve a basic understanding of chemistry and its relation to issues that affect society, including the use and choice of consumer products. As a science course, it reinforces the student's skills in mathematical reasoning, critical reading, interpretation of information, and communication. CHM1020 is designed as a general education course under the physical sciences. It is not designed as a preparatory course for higher level chemistry. |
