A one semester course intended for life-sciences majors; it is a survey of the Kingdom Animalia, including the history, evolutionary relationships, form, function, and natural history of members of the various phyla. The laboratory is an integral part of the course and deals with selected representatives of the groups discussed. It is recommended that students have a one-term biology course or the equivalent as background. The course earns General Education credit under the Biological Sciences category for which successful students will demonstrate the skills necessary to understand and apply scientific concepts and reasoning, including the analysis and interpretation of various types of data.
