This course is designed to emphasize critical reading and writing and requires students to engage demanding texts focused on one theme or topic in a sophisticated manner. As students research and investigate the specific theme/topic, they will develop higher order thinking, including synthesis and evaluation; greater independence of thought; and enhanced facility in writing. The course prepares students for upper-division work in college or for entry into a career. To develop these abilities, students are required to write documented, researched essays. An exit grade of C or higher is required for AA degree students. This course meets the definition of a writing-intensive Gordon Rule course (State BOE Rule 6A-10.030); it also fulfills Part B (Research and Inquiry) of the Communications category of the SF and fulfills the Information Literacy General Education Learning Outcome General Education category. |
