This class treats the development of Western Society from the time of the Carolingian Empire to the age of Enlightenment. The class concentrates on Europe, but also considers the impact of the West on Africa, America and Asia during the Age of Exploration. Particular attention is placed on feudalism and manorialism, the rise of urban society and the nation state, and the various impacts of the Renaissance, the Reformation, and the Age of Discovery. As a writing intensive course, EUH2001 will allow students the chance to explore the subject through a variety of college-level writing exercises that may include essay exams, book reviews, reaction papers, and other discipline specific writing. The primary General Education learning outcome for this course is Critical Thinking: Develop the skills necessary for analysis, synthesis, evaluation, decision making, critical and creative thinking and the creative process.
