The course explores the theories, models, and principles that serve as guides for ethically sound decision making and behavior of the professional nurse. The role that values, beliefs systems, the legal system and moral awareness play in bioethical decision making will be discussed. Case studies of potential and actual ethical issues and dilemmas arising in nursing practice are analyzed using critical thinking in a framework of ethical and legal decision-making.
